Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain

  • 1 large onion, sliced into wedges

  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped or sliced

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

  • â…“ cup soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)

  • A pinch of sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a small bowl, combine half of the soy sauce, a pinch of black pepper, and the cornstarch slurry. Toss the sliced beef in the mixture and let it marinate for 10 to 15 minutes.

  2. Sear the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the beef in a single layer and sear for 2 to 3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside on a plate.

  3. Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining oil. Toss in the sliced onions and bell peppers, stir-frying for 3 to 4 minutes until they are tender-crisp and the onions start to caramelize.

  4. Build the Sauce: Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the vegetables, cooking for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, and brown sugar, stirring well.

  5. Combine and Serve: Return the cooked beef back into the skillet, tossing everything together in the bubbling sauce until heated through and coated in a glossy glaze. Garnish with sesame seeds and serve hot!
